What is 9 Ball?
9 Ball is a pool game mode. The game is played with balls numbered one through nine. The object of the game is to pocket the 9-ball, players can pocket all of the balls in any order as long as the lowest numbered ball on the table is contacted first by the cue ball.
How To Play
The balls are racked in a diamond shape and then a coin will be flipped to decide who will break. Just like in 8 Ball the mode will start off with a breaking sequence.
Break
During the break, the player must hit the 1-ball. The rules governing the break shot are the same as for other shots except:
- The breaker must strike the 1-ball first and either pocket a ball or drive at least four numbered balls to the rail.
- If the cue ball is pocketed or driven off the table, or the requirements of the opening break are not met, it is a foul, and the incoming player has cue ball in hand anywhere on the table.
- If on the break shot, the breaker causes an object ball to jump off the table, it is a foul and the incoming player has cue ball in hand anywhere on the table. The object ball is not respotted (exception: if the object ball is the 9-ball, it is respotted)
Fouling
Players can still encounter fouls. Here are the possible fouls:
- If you scratch when hitting the cue ball
- If the first ball struck by the cue ball is not the lowest numbered ball
- If a ball is not pocketed or the cue ball or any numbered ball is not driven to the rail after the cue ball strikes the lowest numbered ball
Additionally, if a player makes three fouls consecutively without a valid shot in between then they will lose the game.
